Citi Bank passed a copy of this handout to everyone in their HR department.  This is few key “tips” for women to keep in mind to be taken seriously and succeed at work.

The worst thing about this is that I’m not fucking surprised. This is the same company who fired a woman last year for being “too attractive”.
I’ve come to realise it’s best to have non-existent expectations for the world, then things like this don’t make you quite so upset.

NOPE
NO NEED FOR FEMINISM HERE
OUR JOB IS DONE

wow

i cant even tell if its telling you not to do these things or to do them. either fucking way, this is disgusting. fuck you citi bank.

this is interesting… I don’t think it actually sabotages our careers, but they’ve definitely made a few good points. for example, woman who groom themselves in public or how woman can be naive, they apologies to often, and how they stay behind the scenes (for the most part). there is nothing wrong with being feminine, but when in an aggressive environment, you must adapt. legally blond doesn’t exist in the real world. now for the rest of it; asking permission, smiling inappropriately, or speaking softly, well those are slightly bull shit. women actually tend to speak to much, though we are much more respectful of one another (hence the ‘asking permission’). lastly, the most important part is how you sit and having a firm handshake. anyway, I’ve got mixed feelings for this.

The very fact that they even handed this out is insulting. Then to address what is on the memo?…. well that is just common knowledge. I have never heard of anything like this before. If any of the women in this firm think they are going to be taken seriously after this then they might as well quit now. I cannot believe a company is being run like this in the 21st century.
Men are also subject to ALL of the above. Some of my worst handshakes have been from men, and some of the biggest groomers I know are men. Some of the most outspoken people I know are women, and some of the most vocally creative people I know are women. See where I’m going with this?
I am also pretty sure a man wrote this, but I will look into that later. One of the most offensive points on this memo precedes a terrible grammatical error that is so ironic I almost had to pinch myself. REALLY? First, they say, “Men don’t ask permission, they inform.” Which I won’t even bother elaborating on, but point seven then says, “when delivering a message, therefore YOU ARE NOT GET TAKEN SERIOUSLY”. Are you kidding me…?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I am supposed to take advice from what they have communicated is some man that cannot even take the time to edit this piece of advice that has been so graciously given to me? YEAH RIGHT.

I am dying to know the reaction of their employees.
